Urban Racks Featured in ITS International: Expanding Smart Bike Lockers Across Vancouver

ITS International reports on Urban Racks’ collaboration with TransLink to introduce app-activated, solar-powered bike lockers at several SkyTrain stations and bus exchanges in Vancouver. These lockers aim to address common barriers to cycling, such as theft and lack of secure parking, by providing convenient and secure storage options for commuters.

The lockers are available at locations including Moody Centre, 22nd Street, VCC-Clark SkyTrain Stations, and the Carvolth Exchange, with plans to expand to Brighouse Station and Lonsdale Exchange. Users can access the lockers through a dedicated app, choosing between pay-as-you-go and subscription-based options. Additionally, app-activated bike docks are available free of charge for up to 24 hours at select locations.

Urban Racks CEO Kosta ChatziSpiros emphasizes that on-demand bike parking at transit stations makes rethinking the daily commute easier and more accessible. Hub Cycling’s executive director, Erin O’Melinn, notes that providing better end-of-trip facilities like these bike lockers will help people safely store their bikes and shift towards adopting cycling and transit into their daily commute.
