Kingstonist reports on the permanent installation of 18 Urban Racks smart bike parking stations throughout downtown Kingston. Strategically placed across Ontario Street, Brock Street, and Barrie Street, these state-of-the-art racks are managed via the Bikeep app, offering cyclists a secure and convenient parking solution.
Initially introduced as a pilot program in the summer of 2023, the success and positive feedback have led to their permanent placement. The racks feature robust security measures, including large steel bar locks, cut-safety wire, and tamper-detection sensors. The Bikeep app provides real-time notifications and encrypted access, ensuring user confidence.
This initiative aligns with Downtown Kingston’s Strategic Objective to promote active transportation options, encouraging residents and visitors to explore the city while reducing traffic congestion and carbon emissions.
